Good Grief It's Monday Again

The Supremes meet today, and have a new Chief Justice. Harriett Miers for a new Supreme Court Justice? Wow, a sixty year old never married woman, no children, no judicial record and, of course, a Texas buddy of #43. This should be an interesting confirmation experience for everybody.
Usually easier to face a Monday morning after a great weekend. Had a good Saturday visit with my granddaughter. Being four years old, she kept us very busy all day, and it's a lot of fun watching her playing and growing up. Went to UU Church banquet Saturday night, and enjoyed a great catered dinner with music provided by a pianist and singer who also directs the choir. Saw some old friends and made some new ones. Watched favorite Sunday morning news shows, and then went to a park to walk, then to Lenny's for a great sandwich and to Starbuck's for a taste of civilization. Ah yes, savoring the satisfying ambience of great coffee, pastries and the New York Times is a Sunday must. Then went to another park and then home.
Sunday afternoon I saw Sam Pacetti perform at the UU Church. He sings, composes and plays guitar better than just about anybody I've ever seen. The concert setting was in a geodesic dome which is intimate and acoustically excellent. I was sitting only ten feet from the stage where Sam performed and he sure can pick a guitar. There's another concert next Tuesday night, and a performance of Zora Neale Hurston this Friday night (see web site referenced above). 8:00pm Phyllis McEwen portrays Zora Neale Hurston. So, all in all it was an outstanding weekend.
Got at 6 AM today and called my daughter to make sure she was awake and up for an early, and very long, day at work, checked email and NYT headlines on internet and went back to sleep until time to wake my wife for work. Made us coffee and fixed her breakfast and lunch. Later, I fried up steak, eggs, SW hashbrowns and some Mexican cheese together for my very tasty breakfast.
Turned on TV and checked the headlines, weather and scanned the History and Science channels to see what's on TV today. At 8 AM I watched a show about the origins of our universe. It sure puts things in perspective to see where we came from, what we're part of and where we're going. It's downright awesome and mind boggling, and makes our human, petty events filled lives seem like nothing to be very concerned about. Just had a good talk with a friend who is a retired judge, and now I'm watching a WW I series on the History Channel in color. At 11 AM I'll listen to Counter Spin and then Radio Nation on WMNF Radio (88.5).
All this and it's still just the beginning of the day. It's finally Fall again and La dolce vita!

October 16The Culture Wars, Part I: We are living in confusing times. The rise of fundamentalism and absolutist religion seems to dominate our world. Moral values is clearly a concern for a significant portion of the electorate. What is our culture saying to us, and how can we as Unitarian Universalists make our valuesdiverse as they may beheard in the public arena? This will be the first of an occasional series on the culture wars. (Previously scheduled for September 25th).
