What We Still Have Is More Than Enough
In spite of conservative, Republican control and dominance of our national, state and some local political entities we liberal and moderate democrats still have immense strengths, capabilities and resources. Here's just some of what we have left to work with:
1. Our liberal, intelligent, highly principled people who care more about humanity than about gigantic corporations and the selfish rich. Not indicting all the rich, just those who treat others unfairly to make their fortunes.
2. Our honest and truthful media which fairly present and report vital and accurate news which we need. These are media resources which have not yet been totally brought to heel. Lately, even PBS and NPR are being slowly "trained" to be subservient to folks with narrow special interests and conservative agendas. In spite of what we've heard, liberals do NOT control corporate media, if we ever did. But, what we do have is a strong, vibrant under current of ubiquitous, highly effective and alternative media sources such as WMNF, The Weekly Planet, Air America and, best of all, the internet. We just need to use and support these resources as often, as much and as well as possible.
3. Our judicial system which has not yet been totally infiltrated and usurped by conservatives and neo-cons. This is a sure fire possibility, even a probability, if we don't regain some political control soon.
4. Our educational institutions, especially colleges and universities which are still more liberal and pro-democrat than conservative. BUT, this is changing rapidly.
5. Our moderate, mainstream religions which are still very powerful forces for local and national unity, harmony and stability. Mainstream, moderate religion still has a chance to regain its vibrancy, growth and influence even though evangelical fundamentalists are now about 40% of those who practice religions, and this is increasing every day.
6. Our strong military forces which follow orders to guard and defend us against all enemies, foreign and domestic.
7. Our progressive entertainers and artists of all types.
8. Our core values and beliefs which, in and of themselves, are more fair, humane and rational.

The point that artists, scientists and people with a creative sense are for democrats is a strong reason to hope Kerry wins. The last 4 years have been anti-science, anti-art, anti-creativity.
