Change and consequences
I am interested in all aspects of life and "change" is one which fascinates me. We're living in a world that changes more frequently and dramatically than ever or, at least, we're much better and more quickly informed of these changes than before we had modern, high speed communications.
Here goes: You marry someone, have a good marriage and happy life, raise a family and are both relatively healthy and comfortable. After 20+ years your spouse becomes suddenly interested in politics because:
1. She/he likes the looks of a presidential candidate.
2. A relative or friend gets her/him interested in someone or something political.
3, Her/his religion/church influences her/him to change political beliefs.
3. She/he finally has time to begin to pay attention to news of the world outside of family and work.
4. Some major event e.g. 911 occurs and she/he suddenly becomes politicized.
The point is that there are myriad ways and reasons why we make profound changes in our lives. These changes have a ripple effect on others and sometimes a cascade.
Cut to the chase: If you are a yellow dog Democrat, and your spouse suddenly becomes a GOP, religious right, right wing zealot what the heck do you do about it? This, and similar stories of changes are occurring all the time, and I wonder how folks deal with them.
This short story can be told in an endless number of ways, but the issue is coping with profound changes between relatives and friends.
